Qawaem XBRL validation: checks before filing

An XBRL file needs more than valid XML. Check the company, reporting periods, taxonomy and financial reconciliations, then run the applicable official Qawaem validation tools. Wethaq prepares a draft; it does not submit a filing or issue an acceptance certificate.

Keep the instance and taxonomy files together

Extract the complete ZIP into a folder and preserve its directory structure. statement.xbrl contains your tagged financial facts; the taxonomy files define the concepts it references. Moving only the instance or renaming referenced files can cause missing-schema errors. Use the official Qawaem XBRL page linked below to obtain current tools and instructions.

Check identity, dates and filing declarations

Compare the company name and identifier with company records. Confirm the legal entity code, audit status, reporting dates, first-statements declaration and e-commerce declaration. Review comparative dates where applicable. Do not choose first statements merely to bypass a missing prior year.

Reconcile the statements and cash balances

Check that assets equal liabilities plus equity and that each subtotal agrees with its components. For indirect cash flows, compare opening cash plus the reported movements with closing cash, including exchange effects where applicable. Check that values referring to the same date agree across statements.

Run validation on the actual file you will submit

Follow the instructions for the applicable Qawaem template and validate your completed instance. Read each error and warning, correct the underlying source or mapping, export again and rerun validation. For schema errors, check file paths and template versions; for assertion errors, inspect the figures and contexts identified by the result. Never change a true figure merely to silence a check.

Know the difference between a tested exporter and an accepted filing

Wethaq tested a complete synthetic two-year sample with the official Qawaem v0.12 validation tools and Arelle. The sample returned no errors or warnings; deliberately inconsistent balance and cash-flow controls failed. This tests the exporter, not your company’s statements. Live Qawaem portal acceptance has not been tested. Use the official portal for submission and its acceptance result.

Worked example

Opening cash of 100 plus a net increase of 20 gives closing cash of 120 when there are no other reconciling effects. If the export shows 130, find the missing movement, wrong sign or wrong period in the source. Do not overwrite closing cash just to force a pass.

Before you continue

  • Use a template that matches the entity and statements. Banks, insurers and consolidated statements need a different template from this free exporter.
  • Keep the complete financial statements, notes and auditor’s report alongside your reviewed draft.
  • Retain the validation result and check the official filing requirements separately. Technical validation is not an audit opinion or filing acceptance.

Official references, clear boundaries

Wethaq is an independent preparation tool, not the Qawaem filing portal. Use Qawaem’s official tools to validate your completed file and check the current filing requirements.
